SUMMARY:Virtual Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:In the wake of ICE and Border Patrol terrorizing our communities in November 2025 — and amid ICE’s continued presence in our state — it is critical that we all understand our rights\, our neighbors’ rights\, and what we can do to protect each other. \nEvery North Carolinian deserves full protection of their rights. No one should have to live in fear because of their immigration status. \nJoin ACLU NC\, alongside Carolina Migrant Network\, for a statewide virtual Town Hall. We will discuss immigrants’ rights\, your rights when interacting with ICE and Border Patrol\, and our ongoing litigation challenging federal immigration agencies’ overreach.

SUMMARY:Pi Day
DESCRIPTION:Pi Day celebrates the mathematical constant of Pi — it’s wonky and about numbers\, so on brand for us! It’s also fun\, and we are too!  At BTC\, we think of it as a great opportunity to talk about growing the pie that is our state budget through tax choices that ensure corporations and the wealthy pay what they owe.  It’s also an opportunity to lift up the ways in which our public money gets spent and the importance of people having a say in that process.\n\nTaste and vote for the best pie from our lineup of local bakers and North Carolina partner organizations and learn how we can grow our “pie” of public funding so everyone can thrive in NC.\n****************\n\nEstamos compartiendo la ubicación del evento solo con los asistentes registrados para priorizar el bienestar de todos nuestros invitados y fomentar una experiencia acogedora\, segura y accesible para todos los presentes.

SUMMARY:The Color of Law: The Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America
DESCRIPTION:Join February Banned Book Club as we discuss The Color of Law: The Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America by legal scholar Richard Rothstein. This groundbreaking book challenges the widely held belief that racial segregation in the United States was the result of private choices or economic forces. Instead\, Rothstein documents how federal\, state\, and local governments actively created and enforced segregation through laws\, policies\, and court decisions\, and how those choices continue to shape inequality today.

SUMMARY:Meet & Confer: Our Kids\, Our Schools\, Our Power
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Durham Association of Educators (DAE)\, the majority staff union in DPS\, will be one of the first public school worker unions in NC history to sit across the table from district leaders and negotiate over staff working conditions and student learning conditions through Meet & Confer. \nThis is historic\, and how much we are able to transform our schools depends on how strong a coalition we can build of DPS workers\, students\, families\, and members of the Durham community who show up and fight together. \nBring parents and staff from your school to show district leaders that we all want what is best for Durham kids. Child watch and English to Spanish interpretation will be provided. \nOur kids\, our schools\, our power! SUMMARY:"Economy for All" with the NC Budget & Tax Center
DESCRIPTION:At a time when too many people are underemployed and do not have enough resources to reach their full potential\, we must go beyond diagnosing economic conditions and work towards creating a state where everyone can thrive. This year’s Economy for All event will focus on the role of work and workers in building a more equitable economy in North Carolina — and on what it takes to create and sustain “good jobs” across our state.   \nWe are honored that Darrick Hamilton\, considered one of the nation’s foremost scholars\, economists and public intellectuals\, will join us to share a vision for the economy that centers well-being over profits. Together\, we will imagine how North Carolina can create economic rules that keep costs affordable for all and creates a foundation for a just economic future.    \n

SUMMARY:RWB Civics Salon: Voting 101 - How We Choose Who's in Charge
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder why some votes seem to count more than others or why certain districts look like squiggly snakes on a map? Join us for an informative look at how we vote in the U.S. and who decides the rules. Knowledge is power! We’ll break down the basics of how our voting systems work from the traditional “winner-take-all” elections to ranked choice\, proportional voting\, and what gerrymandering really means. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how these systems shape our democracy\, who ends up in power\, and what reforms could make elections fairer and more representative in our country.

SUMMARY:Tomorrow Should be Promised For Everyone: A Community Vigil for Renee Nicole Good & All Victims of ICE Violence
DESCRIPTION:Renee Nicole Good\, a mother of three\, was killed by federal agents while monitoring an ICE operation in her neighborhood—an act of community defense that thousands of North Carolinians have bravely undertaken in recent months. And many of us are shaken\, wondering\, “What will happen the next time I answer a call?” \nTo mark one week since her death\, we will gather to celebrate Renee’s life and remember the other victims of ICE violence nationally and here in our state\, & reaffirm our intention to create communities where anyone can get to school and work safely. \nAnd we will recognize that while a single agent pulled the trigger\, this tragedy was enabled by a broader failure of leadership. No public safety officials – prosecutors and police at any level – have stepped in to investigate ICE violence\, and NC GOP elected officials continue to applaud lawless tactics. We will demand accountability for this violence. \nWe’ll have a community altar. Bring notes\, drawings\, or wishes for the people suffering and your offerings to support those in elected office who choose to work for an end to impunity for federal agents.
