This was the largest ICE raid in our state in 2026\, an operation to keep North Carolinians safe from… sunbathers. \nThese arrests have left many people separated from their families\, a dozen businesses without workers and tens of thousands of immigrants who visit the forest weekly wondering if they can ever return.  No one should fear family separation while visiting our national forests\, or worry that a dip in the river will turn into a trip to a detention center in Georgia. \nThis Saturday\, we’ll show that we love our neighbors in the Foothills\, and we’ll make sure more people understand how to defend their rights\, and aren’t surprised by an ICE checkpoint a national forest. \nJoin us for two events at 11am and 2pm.  \n11AM – Vigil & Car Caravan. Join us for a prayer vigil at Hudson UMC (383 Main St) in Caldwell County where family members of those who have been detained\, local clergy\, people of faith and Foothills residents who love the outdoors will \n2 PM – Training: Know Your Rights & how to create safety at the Pisgah National Forest. You’ll learn how to protect the rights of immigrants in our communities and how to participate in a hotline and alert system to monitor law enforcement checkpoints.

A vote is scheduled in the Senate on Wednesday at 11 am on a constitutional amendment to Right to Work. \nNC Republicans know they are facing growing Democratic momentum across this state\, so they are rushing a right to work constitutional amendment through instead of focusing on passing a state budget that is ten months overdue. \nHere’s what they’re not telling voters: this policy is already law in North Carolina and has been since 1947. Existing federal law already prohibits requiring union membership as a condition of employment. This amendment would not create any new rights or freedoms for workers. \nWhat it does do is give Republicans another divisive political issue to put on the ballot because they are worried about turnout in a year where Democrats have real momentum. \nWe’re packing the gallery at the NCGA to send a clear message: we stand with workers. Let’s fill every seat in the gallery and remind our elected officials who they serve!

We hold employers accountable to keep workers safe. We demand action on critical safety and health protections against preventable workplace hazards. We demand more resources for our nation’s job safety agencies to hold employers accountable. We demand dignity at work. And we will organize and fight for the fundamental right of every worker to a safe job until that promise is fulfilled. \nThis event is being organized with the support of NC Justice Center\, NC A.
