SUMMARY:Pack the NCGA Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join the North Carolina Democrats as we pack the gallery of the General Assembly to stop SB 266\, an outrageous GOP bill that would raise energy bills on working families while killing clean energy progress. \nGovernor Josh Stein vetoed this dangerous bill to protect working families. But now\, Republicans in the General Assembly are returning to Raleigh to try and raise your energy bills instead of passing a budget. \nWe’re rallying at the Old Capitol Grounds\, then marching to the General Assembly to pack the gallery and make our voices heard.\nLet’s fill every seat and remind our elected officials who they serve! \nTime may change\, depending on the call of the general assembly\, a more specific time will be shared as soon as we have it.

SUMMARY:Defend the Veto: Message From the Future Action at the Legislature
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, Speaker Destin Hall and the NC GOP will try to overturn Gov. Josh Stein’s vetoes of 11 bills\, including SB 153 and HB 318\, which would dramatically increase ICE’s ability to detain and deport North Carolinians. \nIf all 49 House Democrats show up and vote to sustain the vetoes\, we will defeat Destin Hall’s attempt to use our state tax dollars to abduct immigrants. \nPlease join us at 9am at the legislature building (16 W Jones Street) as we send “A Message from the Future” as the legislators convene for the vote. \nCome dressed as your future self (whatever that means to you). We’ll be bringing our families – kids welcome.

SUMMARY:Court the Vote NC
DESCRIPTION:Justice Allison Riggs won\, but the Griffin List remains. Join us to hold North Carolina’s high court accountable. \nJoin us for Court the Vote NC\, a public rally to hold the North Carolina Supreme Court accountable. Hosted by a statewide coalition—this event will feature community leaders and everyday North Carolinians\, including veterans and other voters impacted by the corruption of the Newby-Berger Court. We know that the fight for voting rights\, reproductive freedom\, and fair representation runs directly through our state courts. The battle didn’t end with the Riggs confirmation—we must continue to show up and speak out. Come hear from those most affected and help build a movement to protect our courts—and our future.

SUMMARY:Sustain the Veto Rally
DESCRIPTION:Governor Stein recently vetoed these three anti-DEI bills\, in so doing he acted to protect all North Carolinians. Now\, we have to make sure that legislators sustain the VETO on these bills. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSB227 attempts to prohibit public school units from promoting certain concepts. Under this bill\, public school units shall not engage in discriminatory practices\, provide instruction on divisive concepts\, engage in professional development that includes or advocates for divisive concepts or discriminatory practices\, or maintain DEI offices or positions.\nSB558 attempts to prohibit public institutions of higher education like the UNC system or community colleges from promoting certain concepts. This bill requires that higher education institutions not engage in the same practices as listed in SB227 and also prohibits them from establishing a process for reporting or investigating offensive or unwanted speech that is protected by the 1st Amendment.\nHB171 would prohibit state agencies from promoting\, supporting\, funding\, implementing\, or maintaining workplace diversity\, equity\, and inclusion programs\, policies\, or initiatives. They would also be prohibited from maintaining dedicated diversity\, equity\, and inclusion staff positions or offices\, or offering or requiring trainings. The bill would prohibit state agencies\, local governments\, and covered schools from using state funds to implement or maintain these programs and compliance would be determined by the State Auditor. A state officer or employee who violates this section would be subject to removal from office or employment and a civil penalty.

SUMMARY:Get in Line\, Senator Tillis
DESCRIPTION:This joyful protest gets in step for justice – literally. “Joy is a form of resistance” is often attributed to the poet Toi Derricotte. \nWe’re dancing to send a clear and unified message to Senator Thom Tillis: it’s time to GET IN LINE with the people of North Carolina! While he continues to ignore the will of his constituents\, we’re responding not with silence\, but with rhythm\, joy and movement! Our feet will hit the ground in Guilford County on July 12\, where every step is a stand – a stand for community building\, for kindness\, and for those whose voices have been sidelined. \nWith music\, unity and purpose\, we’re turning this protest into a celebration and resistance into motion! Join us – because when we move together\, we shift the future\, and we won’t stop dancing until our representatives fall in line with the people they serve!

SUMMARY:Let's Talk NC Public Education
DESCRIPTION:North Carolina’s Public Schools Deserve Better\nExtremist politicians in the NC legislature are systematically underfunding our public schools while expanding the controversial Opportunity Scholarship program. Over the next 10 years\, $4 billion in taxpayer money will be diverted from public education to subsidize private school tuition\, often for wealthy families\, without proper oversight or accountability. \nJoin New Rural Project on Monday\, June 30\, 2025\, at 6:30 PM as we host an Urgent Conversation with special guest NC Superintendent of Public Instruction Maurice “Mo” Green. This important event will confront the deep inequities in education funding and explore what we must do\, together\, to defend and uplift public education in our state. \nThis inequitable funding creates real barriers for students across our state. Public schools\, which serve the vast majority of North Carolina’s children\, are struggling with outdated materials\, underpaid teachers\, and crumbling infrastructure\, while taxpayer dollars flow into private institutions that aren’t held to the same standards. \nNorth Carolina’s students deserve fully funded public schools\, not policies that widen the gap between the haves and have-nots.

We’ll meet at El Quetzal Guatemalan Mexican Grill (formerly Roots) in South Durham for a brief training\, hear from Justice Earls\, and return to El Quetzal after canvassing to debrief over drinks and snacks. \nDuring these summer canvasses\, we’ll talk with left-leaning voters about their concerns and make sure they know about the far-right takeover of our state courts. \nIt might seem early\, but this type of early canvassing is the best way to increase turnout among low-propensity\, left-leaning in the coming midterm. \nFirst-time canvassers welcome! We’ll provide all the information you need and can also pair you with an experienced canvasser. \nYou will receive additional canvass information the week before the canvass. \nThank you for joining us!

SUMMARY:Pack the NCGA Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Today\, Republican lawmakers in Raleigh are trying to override Governor Josh Stein’s vetoes of two dangerous bills: \n❌ SB 50 – Lowers the age for concealed carry to just 18 and eliminates the training requirement. That puts more guns in inexperienced hands with no accountability. \n❌ SB 153 – Forces North Carolina law enforcement officers to act as federal immigration agents—even in schools\, hospitals\, and community spaces. \nGovernor Stein vetoed these bills on Friday to protect our communities. Now the GOP wants to ram them through anyway. \nWe have one shot to stop them. Your voice could make the difference. Join us as we wear orange and pack the gallery and demand they uphold Governor Stein’s veto. \nCan’t make it today? Call your reps! https://www.ncleg.gov/findyourlegislators

No matter where you live\, get your squad together and join us in Raleigh for our Lobby Day. We’ll have a banned book Read-In outside the Legislative building and attend scheduled meetings with our legislators. If this will be your first Lobby Day\, no worries! We’ll have a virtual training session prior to Lobby Day and will pair newbies with seasoned lobby goers. RWB members have always got each other! TroubleNation groups & partner orgs are welcome to table at the event.

SUMMARY:reSISTERS Fest: Centering Trans Women
DESCRIPTION:Stand up for Trans Women at Duke fights against anti-trans legislation and defends trans rights. Duke Law professor Doriane Coleman’s research\, used to justify bans on trans women in sports in 25 states\, has been leveraged to promote restrictions on trans healthcare\, bathrooms\, and protections\, aligning with efforts acknowledged by Trump to secure electoral gain. Her advocacy has contributed to hundreds of discriminatory policies nationwide\, including in North Carolina in 2025. \nColeman’s work frames discriminatory policies as reasonable and promotes divisions within the\ntrans community\, risking the safety of all trans people. Even a single anti-trans law endangers our rights and opens the door to broader state repression. But we know that all oppression is connected and if trans women are not safe\, we are not safe. \nTo acknowledge the campaign for the ongoing fight for trans rights in Durham and beyond\, we are partnering with over 60+ artists\, crafty friends\, organizations and musicians to launch a call to action\, generative resource fair\, and concert focused on centering trans women.

SUMMARY:NO KINGS - GREENVILLE\, NC
DESCRIPTION:In America\, we don’t put up with would-be kings. NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech\, detained people for their political views\, threatened to deport American citizens\, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies. \n🚨On Saturday\, June 14\, we’re taking to the streets nationwide. We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind.🚨 \nThe flag doesn’t belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it. \nOn June 14th\, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones\, no crowns\, no kings. Check out nokings.org for more information. \nA core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
