DESCRIPTION:The General Assembly has voted to override the veto of SB-153 as of July 20\, and now the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on August 26. This puts us on the brink of a dangerous veto override\, paving the way for SB-153 to become law. \nSB-153 would allow state law enforcement to collaborate with ICE\, putting our neighbors and loved ones at risk of being torn away from their homes and communities. \nDemocrats and Republicans alike have shown us that they do not stand for decency and humanity. \nWe are coming together to prepare for what is ahead and organize against the potential passage of this disgusting bill. The people of NC reject this assault on our neighbors.

NC State Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs joins us to talk about exactly what happened in her state Supreme Court race in 2024. Then we’ll discuss how it could happen again in 2026\, and what we can do to prevent a repeat of those efforts to overturn an election. We will also discuss the importance of state courts\, how to evaluate judicial candidates\, and how to talk about this issue to your fellow voters.

DESCRIPTION:The event is part of the mass mobilization and has two parts. First\, the rally begins at 10:00am at Halifax Mall in Raleigh. It is sponsored by Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic\, Common Cause NC\, Deiter Mediation\, 50501 NC\, Raleigh Boots on the Ground\, and Poor People’s Campaign. \nSecond\, at around 10:30am\, the rally will transition into a march as protectors form a Human Chain. Our coalition partners\, Engaged Durhamites for Democracy\, 50501 NC\, Democracy Out Loud!\, Wake Women Have Mercy\, and Indivisible Orange County\, will lead a powerful Human Chain that starts at Halifax Mall and stretches out on sidewalks. We have mapped out a 2-mile path that circles the Federal Court building to show our solidarity with our federal judges as they defend our constitution and fight back against tyranny. \nForming this Human Chain is a bold act of solidarity. We are upping our game from simply marching to showing unity with a bond that cannot be broken by the lawlessness of this regime. \nLocking hands with others demonstrates our shared commitment to protecting our neighbors\, our values\, and our democracy.
