Stand up for Trans Women at Duke fights against anti-trans legislation and defends trans rights. Duke Law professor Doriane Coleman’s research, used to justify bans on trans women in sports in 25 states, has been leveraged to promote restrictions on trans healthcare, bathrooms, and protections, aligning with efforts acknowledged by Trump to secure electoral gain. Her advocacy has contributed to hundreds of discriminatory policies nationwide, including in North Carolina in 2025.
Coleman’s work frames discriminatory policies as reasonable and promotes divisions within the
trans community, risking the safety of all trans people. Even a single anti-trans law endangers our rights and opens the door to broader state repression. But we know that all oppression is connected and if trans women are not safe, we are not safe.
To acknowledge the campaign for the ongoing fight for trans rights in Durham and beyond, we are partnering with over 60+ artists, crafty friends, organizations and musicians to launch a call to action, generative resource fair, and concert focused on centering trans women.
